Monroe-Woodbury welcomes Monroe-Woodbury High School senior Michael Martinez as the 2023-2024 student representative on the Board of Education. In addition to the elected nine members of the Monroe-Woodbury Board of Education, a Monroe-Woodbury High School senior is selected each year to serve as student representative on the Board of Education as an ex officio, non voting member. The student member of the Board of Education serves as the voice of the students by providing brief reports regarding issues of importance to the student body.
We asked Michael a few questions to get to know him better- read below! Congratulations and welcome, Michael!
Q: How many years have you been going to school in M-W?
A: Since my Sophomore year of High School
Q: What extracurricular activities/sports/organizations are you involved in?
A: I am the President of Young Democrats of Orange County. I am also a congressional fellow for Representative Patrick Ryan. I am a LEAD mentor and a member of the Student Leadership Committee.
Q: How do you view the role of BOE Student Representative?
A: I see myself representing the student body as a whole, not one faction.The BOE Student Representative should strive to be available to students and willing to commit to making change.
Q: What do you hope to accomplish next year as Student BOE Representative?
A: I look forward to being there for the students and listening to their concerns and addressing those concerns with the greatest dedication to help solve as many issues as possible.

A: Charismatic, Energetic, Reliable
Q: Describe M-W in three words.
A: Diverse, integrity, supportive
Q: Favorite memory of school (so far)?
A: Running for class President last year. I had a ton of fun making posters and campaigning even though I lost. I learned so much that I will be able to use later in life.
Q: What is something that people don’t know about you?
A: In my free time, I enjoy running and hanging out with my friends. I am also a huge fan of coffee and love trying different types of coffee.
Q: What do you hope your legacy in M-W will be?
A: As the student who made change to this community and didn’t stop here but is a member of the US House of Representatives.
