parent informational event

On Thursday, May 16, "Don't Press Send" Founder and President Katie Duffy Schumaker will be offering a parent/guardian workshop at 6:30 p.m. @ Monroe-Woodbury High School. This adult-only event is designed to help families "find technologyā€™s place by promoting mindful living, and kind and careful online communication." She does this by providing parents and guardians with strategies as they navigate this ever-changing technological world, by addressing the importance of digital well-being.

Katie is a New York State certified teacher who founded Donā€™t Press Send in her hometown of Rockville Centre, NY. ā€œMama Schu,ā€ as she is often referred, saw the pressing need and acted on behalf of todayā€™s children to create a kinder and safer online community. Katie is dedicated to helping todayā€™s children, adolescents, and adults embrace the benefits of technology while avoiding its pitfalls.

Through the development of the Donā€™t Press Send app, and nationwide workshops for schools, community organizations and civic leaders, Katie has been at the helm of Donā€™t Press Sendā€™s growth from a grassroots mission to an international campaign. She is also the author of the book, Donā€™t Press Send: A Mindful Approach to Social Media, an Education in Cyber Civics. Katie has showcased her campaign on various media platforms, including a Ted Talk, television interviews and magazine articles.
