Good afternoon MWMS families,

I hope you are enjoying your summer break and making wonderful memories with friends and family.

Last evening, the M-W Board of Education approved the appointment of Christopher Berger as principal of Monroe-Woodbury Middle School. We wish Michael Maesano all the best as he moves on to a position in another school district.

As you may be aware, Mr. Berger currently serves as principal of Smith Clove Elementary School, a position he has held for the past eight years. He is known throughout the district for his strong leadership and mentoring skills, unwavering commitment to and compassion for students, and for his long-standing connections with families.

Mr. Berger is entering his 21st year in the school district. He began his M-W career at Central Valley Elementary School, where he served as a fifth grade teacher for 10 years. During that time, he was also a MWMS and MWHS baseball coach. Mr. Berger then moved to Smith Clove Elementary, where he was an assistant principal for two years before becoming principal.

Please join me in wishing Mr. Berger well in this new leadership role. I am confident that he will accomplish great things as principal of Monroe-Woodbury Middle School. We are looking forward to the start of the 2022-2023 school year. Enjoy every minute of the summer break!

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez

Superintendent of Schools
