MWMS hosted its annual Capabilities Week with a variety of student activities designed to highlight the strengths and unique challenges that people with disabilities may face. Students learned a lot about themselves and others! Throughout the week, students experienced sensory exhibits and earned participation tickets that were redeemed for special surprises.
The highlight of the week was an assembly for all students with Rohan Murphy, a professional motivational speaker and former star wrestler. Rohan, who was born with deformed legs, talked to students about how he had to overcome many challenges in his own life. His inspirational message of “no excuses” touched on many topics relevant to students today, including overcoming adversity and accepting differences.
Lessons learned during this week-long event will be reinforced throughout the school year, helping to shape a culture of kindness, understanding and compassion.
