Chicks hatching in science class graphic

As part of the 7th grade science curriculum, students in Mr. Fosstveit's class are studying the life cycle of chickens to teach them about growth and development, organ systems, and a compelling introduction to genetics. By monitoring the incubator over the course of 21 days, students learned the impact of temperature and moisture on the developing embryos.

Five eggs developed normally and hatched during class hours so students were able to observe them emerging from their shells. This exposure to basic science research and development was an instant student favorite. Not only do they love the chicks, they named all of them...and yes, some very appropriate names were chosen - Nuggit, Oreo, Parm, Franny and Over Easy!
