Congratulations to MWHS Senior Lauren Morgante, winner of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Section IX Essay Contest. Lauren's submission is moving on to the state level competition and will be considered for the NIAAA Scholarship that, according to the scholarship application, is designed to recognize distinguished scholastic, leadership and sportsmanship attributes of high school student-athletes and the importance of high school athletics in each student’s life.
Lauren is a contributing member of the Section IX Championship Girls Soccer and Basketball programs and truly models the characteristics of a Monroe-Woodbury Crusader. She is known for her big smile and positivity.
In addition to her athletic endeavors, Lauren has been inducted into the National Honor Society, Music Honor Society, Math Honor Society and the Italian Honor Society. She is a talented musician who serves as a section leader in the Chamber Orchestra, a violist in the Senior Quintet and has earned All-County and All-State honors numerous times.
In her application, Lauren writes, “Playing soccer is such a valuable part of my life that has taught me many things: how to work with others; how to be a leader; how to be a positive force for change; and how to handle hardships.”
