two students who have earned national merit scholarship semifinalist recognition

Monroe-Woodbury High School seniors Olivia Cooper and Dorian Tomaras have been named Semifinalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship® Program. They are among the 16,000 academically talented Semifinalists from throughout the country who will compete for 6,870 National Merit Scholarships offered next spring worth more than $26 million.

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

“On behalf of their counselors, teachers and the high school administration, I congratulate these two hardworking students on this incredible achievement and national recognition. Their strong work ethic and active involvement in our school community truly sets them apart,” said Jason McElroy, Monroe-Woodbury High School Principal.

Good luck, Crusaders! We are so proud!
