Two MWHS teachers, Michaela Caruso and Peter Romeo, have won the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award. The NSHSS provides its high school members the opportunity to acknowledge high school teachers, counselors or administrators who have made the most significant contribution to their academic career by nominating them as an Educator of Distinction.
Caruso was nominated by Samantha Berrio, a Humanities student during the 2022-23 school year. Romeo was nominated by recent MWHS graduate Faton “Tony” Aliji.
“Michaela is an incredible teacher, and I'm always so proud of her and her work. To see her be recognized by a student who took the initiative to make that happen for her is truly heart-warming, and a commendation to the dedication Michaela brings to her work each and every day,” said English teacher and Department Chair Michelle Bulla.
“Peter is a passionate teacher, and I'm so thrilled to see him recognized by a student for all he is and all he does. His sense of humor helps create a tone in his classroom that students find compelling, which is always clear in the quality of work he puts forward, and is reflected in their affection for him,” said Bulla.
According to the NSHSS website: Educators of Distinction are outstanding role models and exemplary practitioners who have made a lasting difference in a student's life by encouraging them to strive for excellence, not just in their academic pursuits, but in all their endeavors.”
Caruso and Romeo were presented personalized certificates in honor of NSHSS Founder Claes Nobel.
