Dear Monroe-Woodbury High School parents and guardians,
I’m writing to inform you of an incident that occurred at Monroe-Woodbury High School today and to reiterate the district’s firm commitment to student and staff safety and security.
This afternoon, Monroe-Woodbury High School administrators were notified that a shell casing was found in a hallway on top of a fire extinguisher case. District administrators immediately contacted local law enforcement, who identified the blank shell casing as one from a starter pistol, typically used at a track meet, that carries no live ammunition. Law enforcement deemed that the school was safe for students and staff.
The district takes situations such as these very seriously and will continue its investigation into the incident. Monroe-Woodbury Central School District does not permit the possession of any type of weapon on school property, as outlined in the district’s Code of Conduct and Board of Education Policy #7360 (Weapons in School and the Gun-Free School Act).
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping maintain safety in our schools.
Sincerely,
Elsie Rodriguez Superintendent of Schools
