Dear Monroe-Woodbury families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! The rain could not put a damper on an amazing first day of school for our students. The schools were filled with the laughter and excitement that exists when a new year begins. We are off to an excellent start.

Each year I send this letter at the conclusion of the first day once all students have been safely transported home. Thank you to the M-W transportation team for taking such good care of our students.

I spent the majority of the day traveling among our schools, welcoming students back and checking in with our staff. I saw many smiles (with the exception of one or two kindergarten students) and enjoyed seeing the interaction between students and staff members.

This year’s theme “M-W Legacy” celebrates our district’s strong history of quality education, student connection and community engagement that remains the foundation of the work we do today. I am privileged to lead a school district made up of compassionate, dedicated educators and wonderful students and their families. Monroe-Woodbury is a very special place.

Spend time with your children this evening! Listen to their first day of school stories and enjoy every moment. The years go by quickly.

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez Superintendent of Schools
