The following letter was emailed to all families on August 25, 2022.

Dear Monroe-Woodbury CSD Parent/Guardian,

For the past two years, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided waivers to Child Nutrition (CN) programs across the United States, allowing these programs to offer all students breakfast and lunch at no charge. The USDA is no longer providing these free meals to schools nationwide, including Monroe-Woodbury.

Beginning the 2022-2023 school year, the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District will return to normal, pre-pandemic ways of qualifying for Free and Reduced price meals. Families can qualify for free meals through Direct Certification (Medicaid, SNAP) or by completing a Free and Reduced Application.

Applying for free and reduced meals is easy! Just download and complete a Free and Reduced Application or submit an online application through the Titan Family Portal. Hard copies are also available at main offices or cafeterias in our schools.

Enrollment in Free and Reduced price meals is confidential and has the added benefit of enabling families to be eligible for the Federal Communications Commission’s Affordable Connectivity Program (click on the link to read more). This program helps ensure that households can afford the broadband they need for work, school, healthcare and more.

In addition, students will:

  • Receive waivers for college application fees;

  • Qualify for AP exam fee reductions;

  • Take a limited number of SAT exams for free; and

  • Participate in the Job Corps workforce development program.

You will receive notification through your district designated email if your student is approved.

Families must submit applications for free and reduced price meals each school year. Applications may be submitted at any time before or during the school year, but we encourage families to submit their applications at the start of the to maximize the benefits.

For more information, please visit our Food Services web page. For your reference, the USDA has released a short video outlining the changes in meal offerings.

Thank you! We look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

Sincerely,

Aldis Ansons
Food Service Director
