A free pre-participation sports screening for all Orange County middle school and high school students will be held on Saturday, January 23 from 9 am. – 2 p.m. at Monroe-Woodbury High School in preparation for the sports season. This screening is offered to ALL student-athletes in Orange County who have tested positive for COVID-19, have had symptoms of COVID-19, OR have had close contact with someone who tested positive.
This sports screening is specifically for COVID-19 related health problems.
Following Guidelines set forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), students will be notified if the screening process places them in a group requiring further testing and assessment with referral to a pediatric cardiologist in order to safely return to sports. This is being done to assure parents and students that they are as safe as possible in order to return to sports as the long-term effects of COVID-19 are currently not known. The screening involves a pre-participation questionnaire and a physical exam which can also be done through your primary care physicians office. An ECG will also be offered, though this is not required to clear for sports participation.
The screenings will be done in the Monroe-Woodbury High School gymnasium under the guidance of Dr. Eric Fethke – a pediatric cardiologist, Boston Children’s Health Physicians; Dr. Jamee Goldstein, Monroe Pediatric Associates; and Dr. Emily Brown, Middletown Pediatrics/ Boston Children’s Health Physicians. The school’s address is 155 Dunderberg Road, Central Valley, NY.
Due to health protocols, screening appointments are available by advance booking only. Please call 845-460-7000, extension 7030, to secure a screening slot.
