Dear Parent/Guardian,

Monroe-Woodbury Central School District is excited to announce the continuation of its Universal Pre-kindergarten (UPK) program for the 2025-2026 school year.

The Monroe-Woodbury UPK program has two models:

  1. The first model is an in-district program at Sapphire Elementary School in Harriman, NY.

  2. The second model is a partnership between the school district and community organizations that offer classes at their facilities. During the 2025-2026 school year, we will once again be offering UPK seats at Little Pals Preschool in Monroe, NY, and Kids Korner in Central Valley, NY.

The school district provides oversight to the UPK programs, which follow an identical curriculum, with a focus on pre-academic skills and social interactions. Programs are held five days a week and transportation is not provided.

If you are interested in enrolling a child in the Monroe-Woodbury UPK program, please provide additional information by completing the online interest form. This form must be submitted no later than Tuesday, February 11, for your child to be considered for the UPK program.

Please note that according to NYS Education Law, eligible children must be four years of age on or before December 1, 2025. A child eligible for kindergarten is not eligible for UPK.

The district will hold a random lottery in late February to determine enrollment in the UPK program. Children’s names will be entered individually into the lottery. All families will be notified of their child’s status once the lottery has been held. Any student not selected in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list.

Please email mwupk@mw.k12.ny.us if you have any questions. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Matthew Kravatz
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction
