Chana Markiewicz, Assistant Principal at Smith Clove Elementary

“I am thrilled to be part of the Smith Clove family!”

A familiar face to MWCSD, Chana Markiewicz starts her 17th year in education as the Assistant Principal at Smith Clove Elementary. Mrs. Markiewicz worked for many years as an elementary teacher before working as a Curriculum and Instruction Specialist, providing professional development and instructional coaching to teachers and administrators. Before coming to Smith Clove, she was an Assistant Principal at MWHS for 6 years. Mrs. Markiewicz hopes to “help students and teachers visualize and materialize their best selves as teachers and learners” this year as she supports Smith Clove teachers in creating meaningful and memorable learning experiences for their students. 

Mrs. Markiewicz’s legacy: She wants her legacy to be one of hope, love and perseverance. She hopes to help reiterate to students, teachers and families the value of determination over circumstance and the benefits of a supportive and equitable learning community.




Kesha Carra, MWMS Dean of Students

“Students deserve a safe place to learn at all times.”

Kesha Carra joins MWMS this year as the new Dean of Students, responsible for student discipline. This is Mrs. Carra’s 18th year in education, where she has worked in both General Education and Special Education This will be her third year as an administrator. Mrs. Carra is excited to work more closely with students this year.

Mrs. Carra’s legacy: She wants M-W students to have a safe place to learn at all times. “Most successful people made at least one connection in school that changed their lives. I want to help them achieve success in that way.”




Jason McElroy, MWHS Vice Principal

“I look forward to continuing to learn and grow in the district while supporting all of our MWHS students, families and teachers.”

Another familiar face, Jason McElroy begins his 14th year in the MWCSD as MWHS Vice Principal. Mr. McElroy has a long history in M-W, as he first started working here in the spring of 2009 as a student teacher. He has held various positions throughout his time in the district, including MWHS art teacher, K-12 District Art Coordinator, Summer School Principal, and House C Assistant Principal.  

“I have learned from and enjoyed all of my roles and responsibilities in the building.” Mr. McElroy is very excited for the 2022-2023 school year, as he hopes to support the building principal, acclimate to his new position and continue to support MWHS students, families and teachers. 

Mr. McElroy’s legacy: He hopes that over the years he is, and will continue to be, a positive influence on the students and staff at MWHS. 




Rafael Vasquez, MWHS House C Assistant Principal

“My goal for the year is to connect with and support as many members of our school community as possible.”

Rafael Vasquez joins the MWHS team as the new House C Assistant Principal. This will be Mr. Vasquez’s 20th year in education, previously working as a middle school Spanish teacher, a high school Spanish teacher and school counselor, and Assistant Principal. Mr. Vasquez is looking forward to supporting as many M-W students as he can this year. 

Mr. Vasquez’s legacy: “As the parent of a Monroe-Woodbury student, I am invested in the future of this district and our commitment to providing the best education to all students. Education changed the trajectory of my life, and my legacy will be advocating for access to the same types of opportunities that helped bring me to where I am today.”



Madrid Boyd, MWHS House D Assistant Principal

“I want to serve the MWHS students and staff by enriching the student educational experience.”

Madrid Boyd begins her 21st year in education as the new MWHS House D Assistant Principal. This year,  Mrs. Boyd is excited to serve the M-W community in her new position. “By overseeing my day-to-day functions, I want to invest my time to provide assistance, and help to plan and coordinate activities that will help run the building efficiently.” 

Mrs. Boyd’s legacy: “I want my legacy to be that I was a compassionate leader. A woman who dedicated her career to loving, helping, educating and empowering children. I want to be remembered as a resilient woman who sought to teach children to persevere despite their personal adversities and setbacks. I want to help cultivate a learning environment that enables and encourages children to become what they are destined to be regardless of their ethnicity, background, or past.”



Julisa Rincon-Tomizawa, Director of Pupil Personnel Services

“I am looking forward to working with such an amazing group of dedicated professionals in the district.”

Julisa Rincon-Tomizawa joins MWCSD this year as the new Director of Pupil Personnel Services. Mrs. Rincon-Tomizawa has previous experience working in general and special education, as well as being the Assistant Director of PPS in Dutchess County. She is excited to meet the students and families in the M-W community this school year. 

Mrs. Rincon-Tomizawa’s legacy: “I want my legacy to be one of inclusion, compassion, and collaboration. I believe that communities (parents, students, teachers, administrators, etc.) thrive when we listen to each other and when we work together to find solutions that positively impact the growth of each learner we serve.”
