Senior members of the Scientific Research Program recently competed in the the 2025 Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair (GCRSEF). Congratulations to winners Shane Golio, Ashley Mallay and Samantha Koranteng!

  • Golio presented on his original study titled, "A 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis on the Effects of Nuclear Heating in the VIPER Cable." He won the U.S. Navy Office of Research Award, Senior Division.

  • Mallay presented on her original study titled, "Extended Earbud Usage in Teenagers and the Risk of Noise-induced Hearing Loss." She won the National Association of Biology Teachers Award, Senior Division.

  • Koranteng presented on her original study titled, "The Characterization of Resistance to R. Commune in Varying Barley Breeding Lines." She won the Brown League Sports Science Award, which is presented to the project that uses a scientific approach to further an understanding or improve the performance of a sports-related phenomena. It is in memory of John Stasenko, who first initiated this award.

Sowa Joarder presented on her original study titled, "Simple Iridium Catalysts for Alcohol Dehydrogenation with Decoupled Proton and Electron Acceptors"

This marks the 35th year that Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute hosted and sponsored the GCRSEF, an affiliate of the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) and the STANYS Science Congress. STANYS State Science Congress is sponsored by the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS).
