Each year, the school district invites local firefighters to visit the elementary schools and share fire safety tips with more than 2,200 students during National Fire Prevention Week. Part of the district's efforts to increase awareness of fire prevention is the Michael J. Fitzulla Fire Safety Poster Contest.
Local firefighters judged the posters created by our student artists and selected this year's winners. Students were recognized during the November 13 meeting of the Board of Education.
Monroe-Woodbury's contest is named for Mr. Fitzulla, who served as Director of Health, Safety and Security for the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District for 20 years, during which time he created the school safety department. Fitzulla worked hard to facilitate the partnership between the schools, local law enforcement, emergency services and the community. Fitzulla passed away in 2009, but his legacy remains through the poster contest.
Congratulations to the first place winners of the 2024 Fire Safety Poster Contest!
