Strategic Planning Process

Background

Since 2018, the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District has been actively involved in a strategic planning process. This process resulted in a multi-year districtwide plan with guiding principles and goals that support the vision and mission adopted by the M-W Board of Education.

This process actively involves students, parents, community and business representatives, as well as district staff and administrators. The school community’s input is invaluable throughout the process as the district proceeds with long-term planning. It’s important to note that this process is fluid and the long-term plan will be evaluated and updated based on the needs of the school community.

The school district distributed the first anonymous survey in January 2018 to all members of the Monroe-Woodbury community. This survey resulted in more than 6,000 responses from parents, students, staff and community members.

Responses from the initial survey served as the driving force behind the formation of four task forces:

  • Curriculum & Instruction

  • Social Emotional Wellness

  • Student Engagement

  • Communications.

Task forces consist of students, staff, administrators and community members who work together to gather research, evaluate existing programs/offerings and plan for enhancements or new offerings to enhance the educational experience for M-W students and build a more cohesive school community.

Ultimately, the task forces make recommendations to the district’s Strategic Planning Core Team, who is charged with oversight of the process. This Strategic Planning Core Team consists of representatives from all stakeholder groups. The Core Team is responsible for detailing strategic intents, or specific, measurable 5+ years organizational results related to student achievement/organizational productivity; vision; mission; beliefs; and parameters.

A second survey was conducted in January 2020 and a third survey is planned for January 2022. For more information about survey results and the long term plan, please review the Strategic Planning Process Overview.

Since the inception of the strategic planning process, the district has introduced new social/emotional initiatives district wide; implemented enhanced communication strategies among our buildings and within the broader community; and has established regular meetings with students to hear firsthand the issues they are facing. There is still more work to be done and the district is committed to seeing this process through.
