What is SEPTA?
Here's a quick overview of what we can do together!
Monroe-Woodbury SEPTA (Special Education PTA) is a dedicated organization that unites parents, teachers, and administrators to inform, support, and advocate for the diverse needs of students with disabilities. We recognize that each student has individualized needs, and every school faces unique learning needs. To address these, we’re excited to have a SEPTA liaison within each PTA, including our Out-of-district families, creating inclusive opportunities to work together and ensure that all our Crusaders with disabilities are intentionally included in every PTA event.
Here’s how we accomplish this:
Inform
We share crucial information on special education policies, laws, community resources, and additional services.
We offer workshops and training on high-interest topics, including eligibility for services, early intervention, legislative issues, and graduation requirements.
We keep families updated on district programs and services related to special education, along with statewide legislative changes that impact special education.
Support
SEPTA provides a space for parents and teachers to exchange experiences and resources. We believe sharing and building resources is key to improving Special Education for all.
Depending on membership, we offer student scholarships and teacher mini-grants.
We advocate for district budgets and funding items that support special education, as well as legislative initiatives that impact these services.
Advocate
We help parents understand the special education process, providing an overview of services, student rights, and parental rights.
We collaborate with other community organizations to offer comprehensive support.
We assist parents in navigating the sometimes-complex processes involved in securing the right services for their child.
How can you get involved?
