Monroe-Woodbury 2-5 Art Program

The second through fifth grade art curriculum is enriched with lessons to develop the seven elements of art and introduce the art principles. Each year the foundation of each element is built upon. For example when the element of color is taught in second grade students will learn about warm, cool, primary and secondary colors as well as how to mix and blend. By fifth grade our students will have learned many aspects of the color wheel including tertiary, analogous, and complimentary colors.
Each art lesson also focuses on experiencing a different art discipline such as painting, oil pastels or ceramics. In addition, at least three artists or art movements will be introduced every year.
While this curriculum is fostering student’s creativity they are developing their critical thinking, and fine motor skills. They will also be using inspiration, observation, planning, problem solving, reflection and above all, they will be building self -esteem.
