School closings, delays and early dismissals

In the event of a school closing, delayed opening or early dismissal, parents/guardians will be contacted via

email
phone call
text (only if opted-in)

and based on preferences selected on Parent Portal. Please take a moment to make sure your contact information on the portal is up to date.

School closings, early dismissals or delayed openings will be posted on:

M-W website homepage, where messages are posted and removed in a timely manner
M-W district Facebook page @MWCSD – “Like” us on Facebook to get up to the minute information.
Follow the M-W district Instagram account @mwcsd

Families are encouraged to download the district app to enable push notifications. Visit the Apple Store or Google Play to download the free app.

The district will no longer be utilizing media outlets as a way of sharing news of closings, early dismissals or delayed openings.

Typical delay and early dismissal times are outlined below. Please remember that in some cases, it may be necessary to adjust these times. Any time adjustments would be communicated to parents/guardians as quickly as possible and posted to the district webpage, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Note: In the event of an emergency early dismissal, all after school activities and YMCA Club Kid are cancelled.

Delayed Opening

Bus Transportation

In the case of delayed opening, all buses, both in and out of district, operate on the specified delay schedule.

BOCES CTE Programs

All CTE programs at BOCES will be bussed based on the Monroe-Woodbury schedule. Students will not be charged for absence from BOCES if buses are not available.

Families should check the BOCES site for their schedule as well since it is often the same as the district’s.

BOCES delayed opening cancels morning CTE programs.

1 Hour Delay

M-W High School – 8:08 a.m. start time
M-W Middle School – 9:15 a.m. start time (early drop-off classes begin at 8:25 a.m.)
Sapphire and Smith Clove (K-1) – 9:15 a.m. start time
Sapphire UPK – 9:40 a.m. start time
Central Valley, North Main, Pine Tree (2-5) – 10:15 a.m. start time

2 Hour Delay

M-W High School – 9:08 a.m. start time
M-W Middle School – 10:15 a.m. start time (early drop-off classes begin at 9:25 a.m.)
Sapphire and Smith Clove (K-1) – 10:15 a.m. start time
Sapphire UPK – 10:40 a.m. start time
Central Valley, North Main and Pine Tree (2-5) – 11:15 a.m. start time

3 Hour Delay

M-W High School – 10:08 a.m. start time
M-W Middle School – 11:15 a.m. start time (early drop-off classes begin at 10:25 a.m.)
Sapphire and Smith Clove (K-1) – 11:15 a.m. start time
Sapphire UPK – 11:40 a.m. start time
Central Valley, North Main and Pine Tree (2-5) – 12:15 p.m. start time

Early Dismissal*

M-W High School – 10:30 a.m. dismissal
UPK - 11:10 a.m. dismissal
M-W Middle School – 11:37 a.m. dismissal
Sapphire and Smith Clove (K-1) – 11:45 a.m. dismissal
Central Valley, North Main, Pine Tree – 12:45 p.m. dismissal
Buses can be expected to arrive at bus stops 3 hours earlier than usual.
