Sapphire Elementary At-A-Glance

Sapphire Elementary School Campus

Welcome to the Sapphire Family

Sapphire Elementary School was established by the Monroe-Woodbury School District on September 4, 1991. Sapphire was once a small Catholic college, Queen of the Apostles/Harriman College, run by The Sisters of the Catholic Apostles, until it closed in 1981. For the next 10 years, local municipalities used the building as a training facility. In 1991, the Monroe-Woodbury School District acquired the buildings and land to be used as a kindergarten/first grade school. The other buildings on the property were either rented out to Orange-Ulster BOCES or are in use by the District.

Presently, the school welcomes just over 350 students each day. As part of our family, students are greeted each day with smiles and laughter. Sapphire teachers and staff introduce our children to a variety of programs to assist students in becoming life-long learners. Educators provide the foundations on English Language Arts, math, science and social studies. Students also experience health, physical education, technology, library, music, and art as part of their day to enhance creativity and self-expression.

Sapphire students and staff support the Olweus district-wide commitment for showing kindness to each other. Staff work with families to develop self-directed, secure and responsible children, encouraging them along the way to reach their full potential.
