The A/V Club supports clubs and events happening throughout the Middle School. You will learn to run sound, lighting and video equipment for our Middle School Musical, Middle School Rec nights and assemblies. We also take pictures for the yearbook and for the videos created throughout the school year.

Depends on Drama Club rehearsals but will generally start at 3:00 PM in the auditorium.

Board Game Club

Book Club

Open to all MS students. Students work with advisors to select a book each quarter to read and discuss. A variety of genres will be read. Students must commit to reading the book outside of class as discussions are based on the previous chapters assigned.

Chess Club

Forget Fortnite! Never mind Super Mario Bros! Xbox – who cares! Nintendo – no way! PlayStation – whatever! If you want to play the original classic strategy game, come join us in the Chess Club! New and experienced players are all welcome! Our focus will be on learning the game for new players and on mastering important chess concepts that will not only develop your abilities as a player but also help you learn to better meet some of life’s everyday challenges. Chess is all about thinking ahead and planning, being patient and gracefully learning from one’s mistakes. And most importantly, it’s FUN!

Crusader Council

This club is for students in grades 6, 7 and 8. The Crusader Council’s main objectives are to represent each student, stimulate a feeling of pride and school spirit and make the Middle School a more enjoyable school to attend. Ideas and suggestions are brought to and from the meetings by the class representatives. These ideas are then discussed and voted upon. The Crusader Council not only acts as a governmental body but also as a service organization.

Meets two times per month on a Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:00 PM in room 253. The first monthly meeting is for the Board only and the second meeting is for everyone.

Future Business Leaders of America - FBLA

Develop leadership skills while having fun participating in community service projects and leadership conferences. Membership is open to all students. FBLA is a national organization where students gain experience throughout their middle level, high school, collegiate and professional lives. As stated on the national website, “FBLA-PBL inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.”

Health & Wellness Club

This new club is for those who are interested in feeling more positive and energetic and want to learn mindfulness and how healthy food choices and exercise can help affect them. Each session we will explore  bodyweight exercises, yoga, walking, hiking and conditioning, and will introduce personalized wellness programs tailored to your students' own goals.

Meets twice monthly on a Tuesday which will be annouced prior to a meeting, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM in the New Cafeteria.

Journalism Club

Are you interested in journalism? The newly formed Middle School Journalism Club is looking for members! We will be focusing on highlighting the experiences and talents of our students while showcasing the culture of our community. Members will be asked to hone their writing and fine art skills by producing pieces based on journalism assignments as well as from their own experiences. Students will write creative pieces, conduct interviews, create podcast content, as well as review events, products, books and movies. Final pieces will be posted in the school and on the MWMS webpage.

Math Team

The Middle School Math Team is available to students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Our team will compete in the 5 Mid-Hudson Middle School math meets against other schools in the Hudson Valley. The meets are scheduled from October through December, followed by playoffs which will take place in January.

Multicultural Club

The Multicultural Club is open to all students in grades 6-8. Students may be involved in other clubs and activities and attend the Multicultural Club when their schedules permit. The goal is to celebrate, learn and teach one another about the diverse cultural heritage that MWMS students represent. Through activities and celebrations that center around music and dance, the club provides a place for students to honor and share aspects of their own culture as well as experience one another’s cultures. Multicultural Club is open to any student who wants to broaden their cultural knowledge or just wants to have a good time with a diverse group of people.

Musical Production

Open to all students (by audition for performers and by application for crew). Audition information will be posted in the Drama Club Google Classroom, and via morning announcements in October. The Drama Club Classroom Code is j7mwykm. Audition workshops will take place the week of October 21st, followed by several days of auditions. Rehearsals will begin in November immediately following the audition process. Cast members should plan to rehearse on weekdays after school and on Saturday mornings between the hours of 9AM and 1 PM.  Cast members will receive a full schedule before making their commitment to the cast so that they can schedule accordingly.  Regular attendance at rehearsals is required in order to participate in the stage performances. The performances will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 7 PM, and on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 2 PM, with a snow date of Sunday, March 9, 2025.

National Junior Honor Society

NJHS is a scholastic organization. The society focuses on five standards; scholarship, leadership, citizenship, character, and service. Students are eligible to apply at the end of their 7th grade year. Students invited to apply must have earned a High Honor Roll ranking for all quarters (GPA 89.5+), and submit a completed application by the deadline. Students must maintain good standing in all five standard areas of the organization in order to maintain their membership.

Odyssey of the Mind

Odyssey of the Mind is an afterschool activity based on problem-solving, creativity, spontaneity, and thinking outside of the box. An informational meeting will be held on October 1st, after which we will begin the season with tryouts on October 10th. Everyone is welcome to try out even if you have never participated before, but you will need to join the Google Classroom and fill out the Tryout Packet when it is posted; new members are always welcome!  The coaches will choose teams of seven members based on the tryouts.  The Regional tournament is on March 1, 2025. If the team wins, they will move on to the State Tournament on April 5, 2025. First and second-place teams would then move on to the World Championships which takes place the week of May 20-25, 2025.  All team members will need to be available for these events.

We begin meeting two to three days a week, usually Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, but later, closer to the competitions we will meet on Fridays as well. We usually start regular meetings towards the middle of October. Be sure to touch base with the coaches if you have any questions.

Meets on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at the start and then Tuesdays through Fridays from 3:00 to 5:00 PM closer to competitions and some Saturdays.

Purple Bridges

Open to all MS students grades 6-8. Purple Bridges meets regularly to discuss and celebrate the similarities and differences among groups in the school and greater community. Discussion topics include, but are not limited to, ethnic, racial, religious, social and family diversities. Students participate in MWMS outreach and advocate for bullying prevention and ending all forms of discrimination. Students may be involved in other clubs and activities and attend Purple Bridges when their schedule permits.

Robotics Club

No coding experience is required to join the club, all are welcome! We will begin the club by getting acquainted with one another; some members may have a background in coding robots and will be able to assist those who are new to the experience. Students will be able to contribute their knowledge and skills during our meetings, as well as through the various problem-solving activities that will be available for them to practice with at their own pace. Together the students will work in groups - or as individuals, if they prefer - to complete robotic challenges and activities using virtual software to interact with the robots. The standard form of coding used is block coding, however, if students have mastered this style of coding, they can learn to code the robots using a code language like JavaScript. The Robotics Club Google Classroom will contain all club information and announcements.

Science Olympiad

Sewing Club

The sewing club will be meeting after school on Tuesdays beginning September 26th from 3-4 pm. Students can take the 4 pm bus home. You will learn how to hand sew and machine sew a variety of projects that you can keep. Students are encouraged to bring in their own fabric to use.

Yearbook Club will be holding virtual and in-person meetings to generate ideas for spreads and  take pictures throughout this year. Members of the club will also practice creating mock templates using the Herff Jones yearbook program. Our yearbook representative will attend meetings to teach students how to use the tools within the Herff Jones program. Students will have the opportunity to use yearbook cameras throughout the day to capture student life.
