Technology Education

The Technology Education Department provides a broad overview of the processes of industry in our technologically-oriented society.  A wide variety of individual experiences and activities will aid the student in developing:

  1. The knowledge necessary to successfully make future occupational decisions;

  2. An understanding of the systems of technology and their relationship to our complex society;

  3. Thinking and/or physical skills necessary to function in everyday life.

WHY TAKE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION COURSES?

  1. To apply abilities learned in other disciplines.

  2. To experience individualized, success-oriented instruction.

  3. To experience “activity-oriented” study of such contemporary areas as engineering, technical drawing, transportation, and electricity/electronics.

  4. To obtain credit for sequences.

  5. To prepare for vocational and post-secondary education.

  6. To complete the technology-oriented dimensions of a student’s comprehensive education.

  7. To apply the knowledge necessary to make future vocational and educational decisions.

This course will provide the opportunity to learn, apply, and utilize common tools in civil engineering design and drafting, methods utilized to construct architectural plans, and design concepts behind civil engineering.

Computer Aided Design (C.A.D.) - 1/2 Credit

Computer Aided Design (CAD) is an introductory course for the extensive field of design and utilizing computing systems as means for ideations, schematics, and models of parts to be made by engineers or manufacturers. This course is here to provide hands-on experiences using a wide variety of technical subjects and content matter vital to the design of parts and technological systems. This course will provide the opportunity to learn, apply, and utilize computer aided drafting tools used in the design and production of products and technological systems.

Computer Integrated Manufacturing - 1/2 Credit

In this course students will get hands on experience in working with materials safely using a variety of hand tool as well as automated tools. Students will develop this understanding through project based learning. As students work on projects, they also learn the methods behind manufacturing items and production systems. Students will design and produce a product using modern manufacturing techniques including 3D design software and computer controlled machining (Laser cutting, vinyl cutting, 3D-Printing, and CNC machining).

Land Transportation - 1/2 Credit

This semester course will explore a variety of land transportation systems and associated subsystems. Topics may include wheeled, rail, track, and magnetic levitation vehicles as well as their related subsystems. Students will gain experience with these systems by designing and fabricating working scale models of the major system. This semester course may also be offered as a full-year, alternate-day course.

Principles of Engineering - 1/2 Credit

In this course, students are introduced to introductory principles behind technology and engineering. Students have experiences engaging in hands on activities to manipulate various contraptions. Students will also have opportunities to learn how to be proficient with various tools to fabricate projects and artifacts. This course is an excellent opportunity for students to engage in solving real world problems and understanding the use of materials to create various mechanisms. A series of solution based data driven activities are completed throughout the class.

Robotics - 1/2 Credit

This semester course is designed to provide hands-on experiences using Vex Robotics. The objective of this course is to offer students basic programming and problem solving skills. This course allows students to develop, build and program VEX robots as well Arduino electronic construction and programming . This course challenges students to work in teams to compete in a variety of challenges. Topics covered may include gear ratios, motor controls, sensors, programming loops, logic, torque and friction.

Wood-Crafting - 1/2 Credit

This class is designing to get students acquainted with hand tools and power tools to construct projects from a variety of building materials. Students will learn the basic principles of: engineering design; tools, resources, and technological processes to successfully complete the course. Students will also have the opportunity to program and operate a CNC machine to create projects.
