High School Prom Requirements
All MWHS students who wish to attend prom are required to complete the Prom Presentation. The Prom Presentation, If They Had Known, is a compelling video of a real life account. Even if your child does not plan on attending a prom this year, they can complete the prom requirement and it will be fulfilled for the remainder of their high school years. For example, if a 9th grade student completes the requirement this year, they will have met the requirement to attend proms through senior year. It is strongly recommended that parents and students view and discuss this presentation together.
Social hosting goes hand in hand with underage drinking. While it may be an unfamiliar term, it is a topic that has come to the forefront in recent years in our county. Social hosting relates to underage individuals being provided alcohol. County Executive Neuhaus created the Social Host Law in 2016, in addition to a Social Host Underage Drinking campaign.
Through the collaboration with the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Orange County the virtual presentation of If They Had Known has been created. This documentary program focuses on today’s party culture and the risks of recreationally mixing prescription drugs with alcohol. It is an honest and emotional account of what happened to Clay Soper that night spoken by the friends who were with him. The story is truthful and alarming and has proven to connect with students in a modern way.
The completion of the Prom Presentation is required for all MWHS students to attend both the JR and Sr Proms. Students need to complete this session at their convenience using the link below. Students will login to watch the video and answer the questions. A student must watch the whole video and answer all the questions to satisfy the requirement.
