On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, Monroe-Woodbury Central School District residents will be asked to vote on a proposed $98 million capital improvement program, which would address long overdue major system improvements and upgrades in all seven M-W schools as well as non-instructional buildings.
The goal of this multi-year program is to preserve the community’s long-term investment into our school facilities and to maintain the health, safety and well-being of students, staff and visitors and to enhance the learning environment and energy efficiencies. There would be ZERO tax impact to residents of Monroe-Woodbury.
If approved by Monroe-Woodbury voters, the $98 million project would:
Improve health, safety and security measures districtwide: add security vestibules in three schools; upgrade public address systems, fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
Upgrade or replace heating systems: six buildings would receive new boilers, three of these would switch from traditional steam heating system to a high efficient hydronic (hot water) system to maximize energy savings and efficiencies; replace roofs; brick repointing; and building facade maintenance
Upgrade MS instructional space: refurbish science labs; upgrade technology classrooms
Complete athletic complex - replace 40-year-old tennis courts, line for pickleball; construct structure to house permanent, accessible restrooms, concessions and equipment storage
Upgrade bus garage underground fuel storage system
In order to present the proposal to M-W residents with a ZERO tax increase, funding for the program would come from multiple sources: Building Aid (70%); capital reserves (24%); and retirement and replacement of existing debt (6%).
