Souza Scholarship applications due Mar. 31

on January 25, 2017

Robert W. Souza came to the Monroe-Woodbury Middle School in 1966 as an instrumental music teacher. During his 14 years at Monroe-Woodbury, he served in many capacities including district music coordinator.

The Souza Memorial Scholarships were instituted shortly after Mr. Souza’s untimely death in 1980. The Monroe-Woodbury Teachers’ and the Monroe-Woodbury Administrator’s Associations decided to memorialize Bob in a special way by creating scholarships in music and the performing arts for seniors, and also for students in grades 6-11.

The Souza Scholarship Committee grants monetary awards to high school seniors in the form of college tuition payments, which will be awarded to one or more deserving students. Grants to students in grades 6-11 will be used to encourage further development in music or the performing arts, i.e, summer music camp, specialized workshops, advanced lessons or training, and more. Underclassmen are eligible to apply more than once for an award. However, once a student has received one undergraduate award, he/she shall no longer be eligible to apply for another.

Applications for both the high school and the middle school can be downloaded here on the district website or from the Souza Scholarship website: souzascholarship.org
