The Iwo Jima Memorial at night

After dinner at Bertucci’s Saturday night the group made an adjustment to our evening plans and took a tour of a few monuments.  We first stopped at the Marine Corps War Memorial also know as the Iwo Jima Memorial.  The memorial is based on the 1945 photograph of six Marines raising the U.S flag atop of Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Next the group visited the Lincoln and Vietnam Memorials.  Several facts about each of these Teachers and parents at Lincoln Memorialmemorials were shared with the group.  Our last stop was the White House.  After a short walk, the group was able to have an unobstructed view of the White House.  Students took a few moments to take pictures before returning to the bus for the ride back to the hotel.

The White House at nightSunday morning, the group will have breakfast, attend the closing general session of the conference then board the bus for the return trip to Monroe-Woodbury.
