Valentines for Our Veterans project sends love to VA hospital

on February 1, 2017

As February begins and Valentine’s Day approaches, Monroe-Woodbury Middle School students found a creative way of showing love and appreciation to our veterans. Student Council, with the support of Advisor Mrs. McNamara, participated in Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney’s third annual Valentines for Our  Veterans project.

On January 19, more than 50 middle school students attended an after school Valentine making event. Students, including Student Representative to the Board of Education, Dan Willis, made over 100 Valentines for the veterans at the Hudson Valley Health Care Facility at Castle Point. Students enjoyed making cards for the veterans who have done so much in service to our country.

Congressman Maloney shared this message:
“… it is perhaps most rewarding to meet and visit our veterans – bringing with me handmade cards from hundreds of their neighbors thanking them for their service,” said Rep. Maloney, son of a Navy veteran. “Valentines for Our Veterans” is a great opportunity to make that connection and show our support for those who sacrificed to keep us safe – I hope everyone will consider participating.”

Finding ways to help our community is what being a Crusader is all about!  #mwcares  #crusaderpride #mwgiftofhope
