Message from superintendent regarding middle school incident

on March 3, 2017

Dear Monroe-Woodbury Middle School parents,

I am writing to clear up any misconceptions regarding a situation at Monroe-Woodbury Middle School that was brought to our attention yesterday evening, March 2.

Specifically, a Monroe-Woodbury Middle School parent reported to administration that her child had overheard two students discussing a possible shooting. As is protocol, district administration immediately contacted local and state law enforcement. A full investigation was conducted and the threat was found to be unsubstantiated.

The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. As a precaution, we have heightened awareness at our school buildings, as well as additional law enforcement and school safety personnel on site today. Please be assured that at this time there are no credible threats to any of our schools, including the middle school and high school.

We remind all members of our school community that “if you see something, say something” and are thankful that our administrative team, together with law enforcement officers, are willing to go the extra mile to ensure safety in our schools.

If you have questions related to this incident, please contact me directly at 845-460-6200, ext. 6201.

Sincerely,

Elsie Rodriguez
Superintendent of Schools
