M-W students honored at Senior Scholar Humanities Breakfast

Two Monroe-Woodbury students were recognized for their commitment to the humanities.

Two members of the Monroe-Woodbury High School Class of 2017 were among those recognized at the 4th annual Senior Scholar Humanities Breakfast hosted by Orange-Ulster BOCES on April 27, 2017.

High school seniors who have distinguished themselves in the humanities during their high school careers came together at Kuhl’s Highland House in Middletown to be honored for their significant achievements in the arts and humanities. The students, their parents, teachers, high school principals and superintendents were invited to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments/performances in the arts including fine arts, theater, music and more. 

The two award recipients from Monroe-Woodbury High School are:

Stephanie Alifano – Stephanie will attend SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Purchase or the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) this fall. She will be majoring in drawing/painting and art history. Stephanie is an art major at Monroe-Woodbury High School. She is an officer in the National Art Honor Society and participated in the “Artist’s Response to Human Rights” art exhibit. Stephanie is also a member of the high school’s drama club.

Tyler Schacher – Tyler will be attending Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham, NJ, where he will be enrolled in the seven-year Doctor of Pharmacy program. He will also pursue a minor in music and Spanish.

Tyler is the tenor section leader of the Monroe-Woodbury voice ensemble, percussion section leader and secretary of the Monroe-Woodbury wind ensemble. He is captain of the drumline, president of the mock trial team and plays Varsity tennis. Tyler is a member of the National Honor Society as well as vice president of the Spanish National Honor Society.

He has participated in numerous All-County and Area All-State music festivals, on both percussion and voice. He has also performed at NYSSMA festivals since fifth grade. Recently, Tyler performed as a member of the mixed choir at the All-State music festival in Rochester, NY and at the All-Eastern music festival in Atlantic City, NJ.
