Monroe-Woodbury High School senior Madeline Salino didn’t know what to expect when she was called to the principal’s office. It wasn’t a place she has spent much time.

When she arrived, Madeline was surprised to learn she had been selected from 16,000 semifinalists from throughout the country to move on as a finalist for a 2016 National Merit Scholarship. M-W High School Principal David Bernsley and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Dr. Eric Hassler were on hand to present Madeline with a Certificate of Merit from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Finalists are selected based on their academics, skills and accomplishments.

Madeline is a member of the National French Honor Society, Pendragon and SPECTRUM at M-W High School.

According to the NMSC website, 7,400 Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from the finalist pool of 15,000. Announcements related to winners will be made April – July 2016.

Congratulations to Madeline on this incredible accomplishment!
