M-W military families – we want to hear from you!

on January 26, 2017

If you have a child in the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District AND one parent (or both parents) are currently on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, please contact the District Registrar at (845) 460-6200, ext. 6237. Active duty means full-time duty in the active military service of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard. It does not include full-time National Guard duty.

To comply with the new federal education law known as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), schools in New York State – including Monroe-Woodbury — are now required to identify students from active duty military families. The Registrar will add military status to the child’s district records.

This data collection will help inform policy and program decisions for this unique student population at the local and state level and is intended to assist the Department of Defense in directing resources and adopting strategies that support these students and their military families.

As with all student data, the military-connected student identifier is subject to strict privacy and confidentiality laws. The information will be stored in our password-protected student information system. For purposes of meeting the new requirement, only aggregate data will be reported. No personally-identifiable student data will be shared.
