The Monroe-Woodbury Athletic Director, Ron Montalto, would like to announce the Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 15, 2016. The “Athlete of the Week” for the Monroe-Woodbury Girls Varsity Track and Field Team is Junior, Kiersten Kral, coached by Billy Mpasiakos.
Kiersten has been a member of the 2016 Varsity Girls Outdoor Track and Field Team for three years. She has also been a member of the Varsity Girls Cross Country team for three years. Kiersten has great versatility and range, running everything from the 800 meters to the 1000 meters to the 1500 meters to the 2000 meter steeplechase and the 3000 meters. Kiersten has tremendous dedication and commitment to the girls track team and puts everything into whatever she does. She has a great love for the sport and continues to make large contributions to the overall success of the team. Last spring she was the Class A Section 9 Champion in the steeplechase. This spring she got off to another strong start by winning the 2000 meter steeplechase at the Pirate Relays held at Pearl River High School on Saturday, April 2. Her winning time was 7:40.29. This past weekend at the Green Dragon Relays held at Cornwall High School, Kiersten led off with a strong 1200 meter leg in the girls Distance Medley Relay helping the team place 2nd in the event and contributing to the varsity team tied for second place overall in the meet. Kiersten hopes to make it to the state championships and nationals in the steeplechase event. Additionally, she helps her team in the 800 meters as well. Kiersten is a valuable member of the girls’ varsity track and field team and this week’s athlete of the week.
