Music is the universal language.
– Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
One of the top priority’s of the M-W Music Department is to provide students of all ages opportunities to explore and learn about music and life in other regions of the world. The district is excited to welcome Singers Of United Lands (S.O.U.L.) in residency from April 18-21.
S.O.U.L. is a unique quartet of four professional young adult singers – each from a different country. Every year a new team of four singers representing high-quality vocal musicianship, geographical diversity, and enthusiasm for sharing about their respective cultures, is formed to share their native songs and cultures with schools and communities throughout the U.S. and beyond. The quartet will be visiting various M-W schools to work with students and share their passion for music and their experiences abroad.
The S.O.U.L. team will lead discussions and workshops on a variety of topics including: cultural diversity, music, foreign languages, geography, social sciences, politics, economics, anthropology, sociology, and more. They will also be performing at Multicultural Celebration at the middle school on April 19.
What a great opportunity for M-W students! Many thanks to the Monroe-Woodbury Music Boosters who generously sponsored the residency.
